Interviews are a test of the senses. They check your intellect, your hearing and most importantly, how you speak. Hence, it is of utmost importance that one realizes how to speak correctly, and for that we have to know what is wrong. The following are a few common mistakes that candidates make and should be avoided. :-
Don't make controversial comments - You don't know the views of your interviewer so don't try to make any comments about topics that are sensitive, like politics, religion, etc. Try to maintain a neutral stance and keep the conversation going.
Don't make personal remarks- Sure, the interviewer might be looking good or may have a wonderful smile, but remember you are not there to get a date. So, keep your remarks to your self and stick to the topic of discussion
Don't ask about salary - The interviewer is well aware of the fact that you are not there to do social service. Unless the interviewer specifically puts the question to you, do not feel free to ask details about the salary or remunerations.
Don't ask about holidays and what the workers do for fun- You are not at your friend's tea party. You will get to know all that you need once the offer is made to you in writing. Stay professional and answer to the specific questions that the interviewer discusses.
Be ready with relevant questions- When the interviewer asks whether you have any questions, they mean regarding the job and not whether he/she is free this weekend. So keep some relevant questions handy like 'what will be the specific profile of my job' or 'would i be given opportunities for higher studies on the job'.
And a last tip-Practice a lot by speaking with yourself in front of the mirror. It helps to build your presence of mind and makes you realize the silly things that may come out of your mouth naturally...All the best
